DIES IN CRASH

Timothy Wayne Steffen, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin N. Steffen of Rte. 1, Malcom, was killed instantly early Sunday morning when the car he was driving crashed into a bridge abutment east of Grinnell on Interstate 80.

The son of Melvin N. and Norma F. Gabel Steffen, he was born May 27, 1953, in Grinnell. He attended the Malcom public schools and was graduated with the class of 1971 from B-G-M High School in Brooklyn. Following his graduation, he was associated with the Maytag Company in Newton as a sheet metal worker.

He had lived with his parents all his life. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Malcom and had been a member of the Luther League.

He is survived by his parents; two brothers, Larry N. Steffen and David M. Steffen of Malcom; Mrs. Larry (Linda J.) Peebles of Grinnell; one nephew, Michael John Steffen of Des Moines; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Jean Steffen, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Gabel and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Steffen.

Funeral services for Timothy Wayne Steffen will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Malcom, with the Rev. Elmer Elzey, pastor of the church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Marvin Amo, and flower bearers will be Mr. and Mrs. John Dalton and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Johnson.

Pallbearers will include David Billman, Richard Billman, James Fultz, Steven Lamb, Michael Thompson, and Thomas Thompson. Burial will be in Jackson Township Cemetery at Montezuma. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
