HELEN JOHNSON

Helen Johnson, 82, formerly of Grinnell, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Colonial Manor in Baxter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with the Rev. Jerry Brown of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

The daughter of John Emory and Carrie Morgan Alexander, she was born March 1, 1907, in Grinnell. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School and had been a resident of Grinnell most of her life.

She was married to George C. Johnson Dec. 22, 1927, in Grinnell. She had been a teacher prior to assuming a managerial position at DeLong & Son Jacket Co., retiring in 1970. She was co-owner and operator of Mitts Unlimited.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and the Pythian Sisters.

Surviving are one son, Robert G. of Newton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Alexander of Omaha, Neb.; and a sister, Edythe Phillips of Valparaiso, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1979, one sister and one brother.
