The Grinnell (IA) Herald; June 1917

MRS. E.E. BOREN

The large and sympathetic company of Grinnell people who joined yesterday in giving expression to their sorrow at the sad death of Mrs. E.E. Boren was a striking testimonial of the deep love with which all regarded her. Young, strong, cheerful and helpful, all united in admiration of an active and womanly woman.

Born in Canton, Mo., on March 3, 1891, Lillian Dittmer came with her parents to Grinnell in 1904. She attended school here and here grew up to womanly usefulness. The Herald can bear testimony to her active and dependable character and sunny disposition. She was a great help to her father in the greenhouse and kind and helpful to patrons.

September 24, 1913, she was united in marriage with E.E. Boren. To them one son, Vance, was born, and at the age of three years with his father survives her death.

Mrs. Boren was an active member of both the Rebekah and Eastern Star orders and all held her in high esteem.

Mrs. Boren's death was due to a pin she swallowed Friday night. It lodged in her throat and could not be removed. She went to the hospital at Iowa City, where surgeons succeeded in dislodging the pin from her throat and attempted to locate it with an X-ray. Monday she seemed to be getting along nicely but Tuesday her condition took a turn for the worse and about noon she passed away.

The funeral was held at the Christian church Thursday afternoon, conducted by the former pstor, Rev. W.B. Wilson, assisted by the present pastor, Rev. A.C. Stowe. A quartet consisting of J.S. Myers, Mrs. A.C. Stowe, Mr. Shaw and Mrs. M. Burt sang and young lady friends and Rebekahs, Darcie Robison, May Benton, Martha Martinson, Mildred Small, Hattie Nelson and Mina Smith bore the casket to its final resting place.

The floral decorations were wonderful in their beauty and fragrance. A large circle of warm friends had taken this pleasing way of expressing their love. The Rebekahs and Eastern Stars were present in large nunnbers as were also the Firemen, the Masonic lodge, the Odd Fellows and members of the Carpenters' Union, in which Mr. Boren still retains his membership.

Relatives from out-of-Grinnell who also were present were Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Boren of Brooklyn, George Vance and wife of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Myers of Davenport, L.D. Robinson and wife of Greenville, Ohio.

Mrs. Boren's quiet, courteous manner drew people to her and made for her enduring friends. Aside from her husband and son she leaves to mourn her sudden death her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Dittmer, a brother, T.A. Dittmer and a sister Mrs. Lena Myers of Davenport, Iowa.
