OBITUARY.

SILAS M. CADY.

Malcom Leader: Mr. Silas M. Cady who for some time has been failing in strength because of old age, passed away Jan. 11, 1916, at his home in Malcom. Mr. Cady was the sixth son of John and Anna Cady, and was born near the village of Alexander, Genesee county, N.Y., on July 25, 1825. He lived with his parents on a farm until the fall of 1849, when he came to Illinois with his brother Miles and family.

He was united in marriage to Julia Anna Bartlet in 1850. To this union were born nine children. One child died in infancy and Emily Delia Lambert died in July, 1895. Five daughters and two sons are still living: Mrs. E.A. Hull and T.D. Cady of Marshall, Minn.; A.C. Cady and Mrs. C.Q. Drake of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. W.W. Overman of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. C.S. Mershon of Cora, Wyo.; and Mrs. H.E. Boyd of Malcom, Ia. He also has two brothers living, John Cady of Long Beach, Cal., and Filo Cady in Michigan.

In the year 1876 Mr. and Mrs. Cady came to Iowa, living on a farm north of Malcom. In 1888 they moved to Malcom where they have since made their home.

After over fifty years of constant companionship his wife was called home on Sept. 21, 1902. Since her death the oldest daughter has been with the father.

While residing in Kewanee, Ill., in 1865, he was converted and united with the M.E. church, W.J. Beach being pastor. When he came to Iowa in 1876, he placed his membership with the M.E. church in Malcom. He was a good man and a lover of the church. He was a lover of music, especially the sacred hymns of the church.

The funeral services were held in the M.E. church at Malcom, on Jan. 14, Rev. W.A. Smith and Rev. Sommer G. Baskervill officiating.
