JAMES J. WALKER
LIVED FULL LIFE
-------------------------

James Jackson Walker was born near Elrod, Ind., July 29, 1854, and passed away at Ottawa, Kansas, August 12, 1934, at the age of 80 years and 15 days.

His father and mother, Jerome and Sarah Grimsley Walker, with their family came to Iowa in a covered wagon in 1868 and settled near the Hickory Grove United Brethren church. They and their nine children had a large part in the development of this community. They were real pioneers--the people we are indebted to for our beautiful Iowa.

For several years J.J. Walker has been living with his brother, Charles, through the winter months at Ottawa, Kansas, and it was at this place he had his last illness. Early in life he united with the United Brethren church and has kept his membership here. Although living at other places he was always interested in the welfare of his home church.

To know him was to respect him for the Christian principles he loved and cherished. He leaves to mourn his loss one brother, Charles, one sister, Elizabeth, and a large number of relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the Hickory Grove United Brethren church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Decker, pastor of the church, Rev. D.L. Cox, and Mr. Anson Moxley of Grinnell, an old friend of Mr. Walker's.

The pallbearers were O.P. Lauren, Roe, Glen, and Roy Walker, and Ralph Little. The singing was provided by a quartette composed of Miss Helen Walker, Miss Margaret Newcomer, Lloyd Stoaks and Elda Cox, with Mrs. Clarinda Lane at the piano. Mr. and Mrs. Roe Walker from Ottawa, Kansas, were present at the funeral.
