ELLEN STRAWSER

Ellen Strawser, 89, a resident of Friendship Manor, died Thursday, Nov. 12, at Grinnell General Hospital.

A service was held Monday, Nov. 16, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Feurbach, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Nancy Sears. Vocal music was by Linda Lohman and LeRoy and Doris Calvin. Pallbearers were Craig, Curt, Dennis, Mark, Mike, Ron, Scott and Steve Strawser. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice Grinnell or the Hazelwood Cemetery Tree Fund.

The daughter of George and Emma Johnson Schafer, she was born Oct. 10, 1903, in Malcom. She attended rural school near her home and later graduated with the class of 1921 from Grinnell High School. She was married to Ira C. Strawser Nov. 9, 1921, in Grinnell. The couple made their home in Knoxville and later farmed near Numa before moving to Grinnell in 1944.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by four sons, George, Anoka, Minn.; Cleo, Nevada; Arthur, San Diego, Calif.; and Robert, Grinnell; one daughter, Ruth DeVinay, Des Moines; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Twyla Andes and Irene Rhoads, Knoxville, and Ella Florer, Sun City, Ariz.
