SUCCUMBS FRIDAY
TO LONG ILLNESS

Campbell A. Gordon, 88, of 422 Fifth Ave., died at his home shortly after noon Friday. He had been in failing health and confined to his home the last 11 years.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Beebe of the Mayflower Home officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Serving as pallbearers were Glenn Anderson, Grinnell Dunham, Harry Bitcon, Howard Edwards, Merlin Elliott and Tom Sanders. Burial was in Hickory Grove cemetery.

He was the son of Henderson A. and Eliza Whelan Gordon and was born on Jan. 17th, 1876, in Hickory Grove township of Jasper county. He attended school in Kellogg and rural school near his family home, graduating from Grinnell high school and Grinnell College. He took graduate work at the University of Iowa.

He taught school at Rigby, Idaho, for a time and later became principal of Lindstrom high school in Lindstrom, Minn. Later he returned to Grinnell to work the family farm north of Grinnell. In 1919, the family moved to Grinnell and he became bookkeeper for William Boyce, plumbing contractor.

On June 1st, 1931, he was united in marriage with Nora Murphy, who survives.

Before his health failed, he was a member of the Hermon Masonic lodge in Grinnell, the Elks lodge and Odd Fellows. He had made his home in Grinnell for 45 years in the same house.

Survivors include his wife, Nora; two cousins, Irene Whelan of Glidden and Mrs. Edward Goulder of Waterloo; and other distant cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and two sisters.
