MRS. H.A. GORDON
MOURNED BY HOST OF REL-
ATIVES AND FRIENDS.
----------------------------------------

After a long illness which was endured with great patience, Mrs. H.A. Gordon passed quietly away on Sunday, November 2, 12 o'clock, at her home, 422 Fifth avenue.

Eliza Whelan, was born in Meath County, Ireland. Being left an orphan at an early age, she came to this country where she resided with her aunt for several years in New York City. Later she went to Westbrook, Conn., where she attended the Westbrook Academy. Afterwards she moved to Hartford, Conn., where she united with the Pearl street Congregational church. During her residence here she made a number of friendships which she cherished to the last.

In 1869 she moved to Muscatine County, Iowa. While living there in 1873 she was united in marraige to H.A. Gordon. Four children were born to this union, Edward and Esther, who have preceded their mother, and Campbell and Anna, who survive.

With her husband she moved to a farm in Jasper county in order that the children might receive the educational advantages of Grinnell schools and college. Here they have lived until last January when they moved into town. She united with the Congregational church of which she was still a member.

She was interested in all things of a public nature; but her chief interest was in her home, where her thought was always for others.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and son and daughter, who were with her until the last. Funeral services were held at the home on West Fifth avenue at one o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. E.W. Cross, of the Congregational church, and Rev. W.W. Woodburn of the Presbyterian church. The body was laid to rest in Hickory Grove cemetery.
