SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for H.P. Broyles, 78, of 1114 Elm St., who died of heart failure early Friday morning, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home.

The Rev. James P. Russell, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiated. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Ellis Brown, Lyman Case, Keith Gregory, Wendell Kooistra, Donald Phillips and Richard Sanders. Honorary pallbearers were Delno DeWitt, Glen Harris, Allen Latcham, John Runyan, Henry Selle and Ben Tarleton. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Mr. Broyles is survived by his wife, Patsy; two daughters, Mrs. William F. (Joyce) Bodenhamer of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Betty Gerber of Moraga, Calif.; three grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters, Osborne Broyles of Someret, Ky., Swannie R. Broyles of Cincinnati, Ohio, Edith E. Preston of Cincinnati, and Edna I. Robinson of Sebastian, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters, Burnett Broyles, Mrs. Lena Snyder and Mrs. Delia Bloomer and a half-sister, Lula McQuary.

RITES TUESDAY

H.P. Broyles, 78, of 1114 Elm St., Grinnell, died early Friday of a heart attack at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Russell, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Masonic fraternal rites will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Clark Watkins and members of Hermon Masonic Lodge No. 273, A.F. & A.M., attending.

Should friends desire, memorials in Mr. Broyles' name may be made to the coronary care unit at Grinnell General Hospital and left at the funeral home.

The son of Hiram Polk and Mary Jane Burnett, he was born Aug. 24, 1900, at Somerset, Ky., where he attended school. On Aug. 16, 1927, he was married to Patsy McCart at Corydon. The couple had two daughters.

Mr. Broyles was manager of the York Lumber Co. here from 1929 to 1955. From 1955 to 1965, he served as office manager for the Denniston & Partridge Lumber Co. He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher, and of the men's club of the church. He was a past master of Hermon Lodge here and was active in Masonic affairs throughout the state. He was also a member of Palestine Chapter No. 143, Royal Arch Masons, and Oriental Commandery No. 22 of Newton.

Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Joyce Bodenhamer of San Diego, Calif., and Betty Gerber of Moraga, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
