Charles W. DeLong

Charles W. DeLong, 90, of Grinnell died Thursday, May 24, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

A joint memorial service for Mr. DeLong and his late wife, Katherine Coggeshall "Kate" DeLong, 92, who died May 15, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, at the United Church of Christ-Congregational, with the Rev. Bob Molsberry officiating. Organist will be Alice Renaud. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Dr. Charles A. and Helen Humphrey DeLong, he was born Sept. 17, 1910, in Gary, Ind., where he was raised. He was a 1931 graduate of Grinnell College.

He was married to Katherine Coggeshall June 12, 1935, in Des Moines. They lived in several Midwestern communities, prior to moving to Grinnell in 1940.

Mr. DeLong was a manufacturer and business owner who produced sportswear and later, stadium seating. He was a member of the Grinnell Country Club and the Kiwanis Club.

Surviving are one daughter, Ann Haase of North Oaks, Minn.; three sons, Dr. Charles of Palo Alto, Calif., David of Gainesville, Fla., and Harris "Tim" of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Robert and one sister, Ruth Brown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayflower.
