Joseph M. Morris, who died at his home at 521 Park St., of cancer of the throat early Wednesday morning, April 25, 1906, was born in Sheffield, England in 1841 and so was sixty five years old.

When he was fourteen years old he moved with his parents to Taunton, Mass. After remaining there but a year he came to Iowa City in 1856 where he remained till he was twenty years of age. Going to Colorado just before the outbreak of the Rebellion he joined the 1st Colorado Volunteer Cavalry and served his country faithfully and honorably.

At the close of the war he returned to Iowa City and in 1869 came to this city where he has since made his home.

He was twice married--in 1872 to Miss Kate Meservey and in 1885 to Miss Kate Satchell. One of his children by his first marriage, Mrs. Frank Wood of this city, was present at the funeral. His wife and a fourteen year old daughter, Lois, who is in the Grinnell high school, survive him.

For many years Mr. Morris was one of the leading tailors in Grinnell and in this business made many friends. He was of a genial and kindly nature and was always good and kind to those close to him especially to his family. He was honorable in his business dealings.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. J.A. Hurley assisted by Prof. L.F. Parker were held from the residence Friday afternoon at half past two o'clock and the remains laid to rest in Hazelwood.
