O.J. WORCESTER PASSED AWAY ON TUESDAY EVENING

Othello Judson Worcester was born in LeGrand township, Marshall county, Iowa, December 25, 1863, and passed away peacefuly at his home in Grinnell after a long illness at 9:20 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 1938, at the age of 74 years. By a strange coincidence he passed away exactly 42 years to the day after the death of his mother.

He was the son of Justus and Sarah Worcester. In 1874 he, with his parents, moved to Grinnell, where he has resided ever since. Here he attended school and graduated from high school in the class of 1881. Soon afterward he went to work at the Grinnell Savings Bank when Henry Lawrence was cashier. The following year he began the printing business in the office of "The Grinnell Independent," when J.H. Patton, his brother-in-law, and J.M. Chamberlain were proprietors.

Mr. Worcester was a printer for 33 years, having also worked for "The Independent Signal" and "The Grinnell Herald," He began work with the "The Grinnell Herald" when S.A. Cravath was owner and continued with The Herald until 1915.

Mr. Worceester was converted and joined the Baptist church during the pastorate of Rev. J.F. Heilner, under which pastorate the present church was built in 1889. He was an active worker as long as his health would permit. He was married to Rosella Parmenter, October 18, 1906. Surviving are his widow and one son, Paul F. Worcester; also five sisters, Mrs. Martha Derr, Mrs. Mary Patton, and Miss Alma Worcester of Grinnell, Mrs. Adda Auten of Gaston, Ore., and Mrs. Frances Norris of Fort Collins, Colo. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death, the sister, Mrs. Lura Hardy having passed away about three weeks ago.

Funeral services for Mr. Worcester were held Thursday at 2:30 from the home in charge of Rev. Wm. F. Long of the Baptist church. Burial was in the family lot in Hazelwood. Pallbearers were Mark Holmes, Walter Squire, George Lewis, Horace Ent, Lou Ent and Charles Evans. Appropriate music was furnished by Mrs. Ed Bohstedt and Mrs. Roscoe Dempster, with Mrs. Paul Alexander at the piano.
