MARCUS PARMENTER

Marcus Parmenter, son of George D. and Lydia Roberts Parmenter, was born on Oct. 9, 1875, near Gilman, and died recently near Corvallis, Oregon, where he made his home for 49 years.

Funeral services were held at Corvallis with the Rev. Clarence W. Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens cemetery there.

He lived with his parents on their farm near Gilman until the family moved their farm near Grinnell. In 1898 he entered the Iowa Infantry and served during the Spanish-American War.

He was united in marriage with Maude Runner in 1902 at the home of her parents near Green Mountain, Iowa. The couple lived at Grinnell until 1906 when they moved west and settled at Albany, Ore., and lived there for four years and then purhcased a farm in the Beaver Creek area where they lived until a few years ago when they retired and moved to Corvallis.

Mr.Parmenter was a member of the Methodist church of Grinnell and the Phillips Camp Spanish-American War Veterans of Albany.

Besides his widow, he is survived by four sons; Elbert E. of La Crescenta, Calif., Harold L. of Eugene, Ore., Maurice S. of McMinnville, Ore., Russell D. of Dallas; two daughters, Mrs.Kenneth (Grace) Webb of Tygh Valley, Ore., and Mrs. Raymond (Norma) Drake of Corvallis; two sisters, Mrs. Howard Hyde and Mrs. Bert Johnson, both of Grinnell; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
