LAST RITES HELD FOR GILBERT ELLIOTT MARCH 6

Services for Gilbert Elliott were held at 2:00 p.m. on March 6, 1966 at the Steffy Funeral Home in Montezuma. The Rev. Mr. John Hansel officiated.

Casket-bearers were Bert Ross, Lowell Wolf, Cecil Elliott, Claudis Axtell, Kenneth Thorpe, and Warren Stevenson. The interment was at Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River.

Gilbert, son of Evaline and Noble Elliott, was born near Deep River, Iowa, on Aug. 24, 1886 and passed away at his home in Deep River, on March 3, 1966, at seventy-nine years of age.

In his youth he attended rural school and helped with the farm work.

On July 14, 1912, he was united in marriage with Pearl Height. They have made their home in the Deep River community for more than fifty-four years.

"Gib" as he was called by his friends, was a farmer until they moved to town in 1939, where he served as town marshall for several terms.

He was a member of the Christian Church. He has been in failing health for the past six years.

He is survived by his wife and a foster daughter, Evelyn Gibson, of Cedar Rapids, other relatives and many friends.
