IN MEMORIAM
A radiant spirit passed from our earth when Mrs. Sarah Harris Worthington entered into life eternal on the afternoon of Oct. 15. Mrs. Worthington was born Sarah C. Harris, June 14th, 1837 in Harrisville, Penn. In the early spring of 1852, the family came to Iowa settling in Lee County, near Keokuk. In the fall of 1854 she was married to Theodore Worthington and moved with him and their infant daughter to Grinnell in 1856, her parents having removed there the previous year. The larger part of her life from this time was passed here. Here four more children were born to them, two of whom, an infant son, and Mrs. Florence S. Worthington Steele passed from earth many years before. She always thought of Grinnell as her home even in the years when she has lived elsewhere. She united with the Church here at an early day and kept her membership until not many years since, she felt that the smaller and weaker church where she was living needed her closer influence and service as a member. She was a deaconess in the Church here from 1895 until they finally left to make their home in Lewis where their daughters were living. This work was very dear to her as notheing gave her so much pleasure as to give sympathy and help where it was needed. A few weeks before her passing she said that these were the happiest years of her life. Her joyous outlook on life was a source of happiness to her family and friends and her cheerfulness and optimism persisted through many hard experiences.
Love, sympathy, cheerfulness, faith, these were the keynotes of her character. In this knowledge her friends are comforted even though they sorrow because they shall see her face no more.
Mrs. Worthington's death occurred at Lewis Monday afternoon at three o'clock. The body was brought to Grinnell on No. 10 Wednesday accompanied by her daughter Mrs. Carrie Woodard of Lewis and her nephew, Harry Worthington of Des Moines. Burial was in Hazelwood where a brief memorial service was conducted by her friend and former pastor, Rev. E.M. Vittum.
