The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Sept. 8, 1893

--Mrs. Susan N. Hill, wife of Mr. Henry Hill, died Tuesday evening, aged 63, after four weeks' illness. The funeral took place at 2:00 P.M. yesterday from the home, Professor S.J. Buck officiating. She was a daughter of Captain James Harris, was born in Harrisville, Pa., came to Iowa in 1852, and in 1855 to Grinnell. In the fall of that year she was married to Henry Hill, the first marriage service in the settlement. In Pennsylvania she was a member of the Free Presbyterian church and here she united with the Congregational church. When the Seventh Day Adventists organized a society she became a member of that society and remained earnestly devoted to that body till her death. She certainly ranks among the pioneers of Grinnell. When she came the place was essentially an unbroken, treeless prairie. No one who know her doubtd her piety. She lived a life of piety and died in hope. A large company of neighbors and friends was present at the funeral services to show the estem and regard in which she was held by them. She leaves a husband, four sons and one daughter, Mrs. Macomber, of Lewis. In Grinnell she leaves one brother, Dr. E.H. Harris, and two sisters, Mrs. R.M. Haines and Mrs. Worthington.
