CALIFORNIA RITES FOR JOHN RUSSELL, FORMER RESIDENT

John S. Russell, 86, of Visalia, Calif., longtime Grinnell area resident, died recently at a Visalia hospital.

Funeral services were held Mar. 4th at Visalia and interment was made there.

Born at Newcastle, Ind., he moved with his family to Poweshiek county at the age of three and resided near Grinnell. He received his education here and was engagged in farming on the family farm.

On Dec. 3rd, 1902, he was united in marriage with Alta McDonough at her home near Grinnell. They recently observed their 61st wedding anniversary.

The couple resided near Grinnell and retained their farming interests until they moved to Visalia in August of 1959. Mr. Russell attended the First Baptist church there and was a member of the men's Bible class.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by two sons, Cleon H. and Wayne W., both of Visalia; a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Egan of Missouri Valley, Ia.; a brother, Charles E. Russell of Newton; two sisters, Mrs.Pearl McDonough and Mrs. Lillile May Adams, both of Whittier, Calif.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
