CRAIG T. FRAZIER
A Grinnell nobleman was borne away to Hazelwood on the 20th inst. He left a rich inheritance to his family, yet carried his best treasures with him into the unseen. He was not born in a so-called princely circle. Crait T. Frazier wrought out his own title to nobility. His wealth was not noted on the pages of Bradstreet or on the assessor's lists, but was after all his own indefeasible possession. He was a christian gentleman.
His life began almost sixty years ago in Illinois. Fatherless at five, motherless at thirteen, there might have been great fear for his future career, but he made his own way into a manly manhood. In 1872 he married Miss Frances E. Kelton in Kellogg and spent most of the last fifteen years in Grinnell, chiefly as an engineer for the Spaulding Mfg. Co.
A son and four daughters, Levi, Mrs. Nellie Shaw, Mrs. Maud Powers and Misses Mabel and Lucretia, survive him, as do two of his sisters, Mrs. Fidelia McDonald of Minden, Nebr., and Mrs. Edith Emmert of Dixon, Ill.
The funeral was conducted by Professor L.F. Parker. The music was very tenderly rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Dungan, Miss Stella Bartlett and Mr. Meyers, and the bearers were Messrs. J.F. Wilson, H.A. Woodford, T.B. Bump, H.B. Westlake, M.H. Shahan and Mr. Braley of Kellogg.
He was buried beneath a mass of flowers, the offerings of sincere esteem. The respect paid his memory by his employers, and especially by fellow workmen who took the long march under a burning sun to his grave, is noteworthy, but best of all have been the words of eulogy uttered by all these and by others outside of these groups. The family is exceedingly grateful for every token of kindness. Mr. Frazier's life was a benediction to the mand to all who knew him.
