MRS. A.B. GAGE, FORMER RESIDENT, DIED MARCH 28
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Word has been received by Grinnell friends of the death of Mrs. A.B. Gage, a former well-known resident of Grinnell, who passed away at her home in Nashua, N.H., on March 28. Mrs. Gage had passed her 99th birthday on Feb. 17. She was sick only a week. When the Gage family lived in Grinnell, Mr. Gage was a salesman for the Spaulding Manufacturing Co. and was engaged in trailing buggies all over the west. He died in 1914, shortly after the family lived in Nashua. An only son, who was a talented musician, also died several years ago.
A copy of the Manchester, N.H. Union received by Mrs. F.F. Clindinin, gives the following information about Mrs. Gage:
"A native of Litchfield, Mrs. Gage had lived in Nashua 41 years. She was born Feb. 17, 1844, the daughter of Nathan and Fanny Bartlett. She resided in Vermont for a short time, then moved to Grinnell, Ia., where she lived many years before coming to Nashua. Mrs. Gage was a member of Pilgrim Chapter, O.E.S., the First Universalist church and the Women's Relief corps.
"Until a few days ago she had been active in her home. Mrs. Gage read nearly a book a day, which she borrowed from the Public Library or was loaned by friends. She was rarely ill and seldom required medicine, but because of an infirmity in her legs she was detained in a wheel chair.
"Survivors include five cousins. They are Mrs. Ida M. Cox, Huntington Park, Calif., Mrs. James B. Douglass, Collinsville, Conn., Mrs. Carl H. Kelso, Springfield, Mass., Charles Jones, Brockton, Mass., and Miss Mura Clark, Concord."
