Obituary dated Dec. 29, 1916

SAMUEL GAY

Samuel Gay was born in Devonshire, England, on April 29, 1849. He was the youngest son of John and Elizabeth Gay, and was the last of ten children to pass away.

When a young and stalwart man of twenty-four years he left his native fatherland to seek his fortune in America. After spending about six years here he again went home, this time to return with his life helpmate. He passed away on Dec. 21, at about 8 o'clock in the evening, at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 22 days.

Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday at 1:30 and interment was made in Bethel cemetery.

In the death of Mr. Gay, Richland township loses one of its pioneer settlers and a respected citizen, who will be sorely missed both by his aged wife and his many friends and neighbors.
