Opal, daughter of C.A. and Elizabeth Vermillion, was born near Barnes City Mar. 4, 1896 and died at her home Mar. 23 at the age of 64. Death came on her 43rd wedding anniversary.
She attended Barnes City schools and was a Sunday school teacher there for a number of years. She was united in marriage with George Zearfoss at Grinnell Mar. 23, 1917. They operated the Phillips 66 station at Delta 23 years before moving to Montezuma in 1949. She was a member of the Christian church and the Rebekah lodge.
Surviving are her husband, a sister, Mrs. Fred Davis, Montezuma, a brother, William Vermillion, Des Moines, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Mar. 26 at the Steffy Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. R. Carrol Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stahl, accompanied by Miss Alice Underwood, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden." Interment was in Jackson township cemetery. Casket bearers were Arlo VanHoever, Bill Bushong, Kenneth Bushong, Jim Hicks, Dick Anderson and Phil Neofotest.
