RITES HELD FOR MR. MEREDITH

Albert R. Meredith, 95, died in Grinnell Sunday, Dec. 11.

Funeral services for Mr. Meredith were held Wednesday at the Lynnville Friends Church, with the Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Pallbearers were Ervin Meredith, Donald Meredith, Bruce Meredith, Fred Raaz, Dennis Meredith, and Lowell Meredith. Flower attendants were Caroline Meredith, Shirley Milburn and Virginia Meredith.

Burial was at New Salem Cemetery.

The son of Marshall and Margaret Jane Sparks Meredith, he was born May 17, 1882, north of Lynnville. When he was 4, he moved with his parents to Greene County. He attended school at Angus, later attending normal school at Perry.

He later returned to Lynnville. On March 6, 1902, he was married to Myrle J. Garner, who preceded him in death Oct. 3, 1973. The couple had six children.

For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Meredith lived in and around Lynnville where they farmed. They moved to Pasadena, Calif., in 1906 because of a daughters health, but returned to Lynnville in 1907 when Mr. Meredith was employed by Macy Bros. He resumed farming in 1912, and the family moved near Reasnor and later to Colfax. The family moved back to Lynnville in 1915, farming until 1931 when they started the Meredith Grocery in Lynnville. Mr. Meredith continued to operate the business until his retirement in the late 1940s.

He was a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge No. 227 at Lynnville receiving a 50-year membership certificate from the Grand Lodge of Iowa in 1957. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Mary White Chapter of Lynnville, for many years.

Survivors include one daughter, Treva Meredith Etting of Grinnell; three sons, Marshall G. Meredith of Lynnville, Merlin W. Meredith of Marine City, Mich., and Rayford L. Meredith of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Murl Raaz of Rippey. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1973; two children, Freada Meredith Brignon and Kenneth Gerald Meredith, one sister, Leota Riley; and two brothers, Owen Meredith and Jesse Meredith.
