HOWARD R. JONES

Howard R. Jones, 91, died May 17 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Graveside services were held Friday, May 19, at Hazelwood Cemetery with Scott Marcum, pastor of the Christian Church in Blockton, officiating. Pallbearers were Larry Cook, Hank Higdon, Jack Marcum, Scott Marcum, Bob Smith and Wayne Wiley.

The son of John and Rosa Massey Jones, he was born Nov.10, 1903, near Ash Grove in Davis County where also attended rural school. He later moved with his family to Lynnville where he attended Lynnville High School. He was married June 22, 1934 in Newton to Wilma Mae Grubb, and the couple made their home in Grinnell. He worked as a section hand for the M&St.L. Railroad and for the former Smith Furniture and Undertaking. He also worked for over 30 years with Miller & Lindhorst Builders and during retirement did some carpentry work with LeRoy Mithelman and also was self-employed.

He is survived by nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; one brother Charles Jones, four sisters, Louia Bale, Lena Beason, Rena Jones and Bertha Marcum, and several half brothers and sisters.
