FUNERAL OF MRS. MARTHA L. MARVIN HELD
-------------------------------------
Beloved Grinnell Woman Died Suddenly Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.
-------------------------------------

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Longley Marvin, widow of F.P. Marvin, were held from the home at 703 Main street at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. William Welsh. Pallbearers were Chal Chacey, Arthur Robison, Paul Halterman, Claire Cooper, C.C. Crisman and A.M. Burton. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mrs. Marvin died suddenly Saturday morning of a heart attack at the home of her son, Professor Henry H. Marvin, in Lincoln, Neb., where she had gone for a visit over the Christmas holidays. She had intended to attend the wedding of her eldest grandson, Burton Marvin, next Saturday, after which she had planned to return to her home here. She was taken sick at 8 o'clock in the morning and lived only an hour. Prior to her last sickness she had seemed even better than usual.

Martha Longley was born in Chester township July 3, 1863. She attended the same country school, known to Grinnell people as the Willard school, with Frank Marvin, who was later to become her husband. Both she and Mr. Marvin attended Grinnell high school, Mr. Marvin graduating in 1879 and Mrs. Marvin in 1881.

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin were married Oct. 4, 1882, and went to housekeeping on the farm on which Shady Grove tourist camp is now located. Their home at that time was on the hill across the road from the present R.H. Adkins home. In 1896, they moved to Grinnell where Mr. Marvin entered the hardware business with his brother, Rev. J.T. Marvin. The store was located on Commercial street.

Later Mr. Marvin became secretary of the Mutual Home Loan & Savings Association and for a number of years Mrs. Marvin assisted him in the office.

Since Mr. Marvin's death, Mrs. Marvin has lived quietly in her home on Main street, surrounded by the loving attentions of her children and her many friends.

Since her young womanhood she had been an interested and active member of the Rebekah lodge and retained her membership until the day of her death. She had also belonged to the D.A.R. and other organizations.

Mrs. Marvin is survived by her son Henry of Lincoln, Neb., and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Harry Hurless of Ogden, Ia.; also by eight grandchildren, Burton W., James S., Jean A., David K., Henry H. Jr., and Ruth J. Marvin and Henry M. and Mary L. Hurless.

Mr. and Mrs. Marvin celebrated their golden wedding Oct. 4, 1932, the occasion also being distinguished by President Hoover's visit to Grinnell.

All of Mrs. Marvin's long life had been spent in and near Grinnell. She loved Grinnell and Grinnell valued and esteemed her as one of its good and useful women. She will be greatly missed in the circles which she has graced for so many years.

CARD OF THANKS.

We wish to thank the neighbors and friends for their kind sympathy and helpfulness extended to us at the time of our bereavement; also for the floral offerings.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marvin.
Mr. adn Mrs. Harry Hurless.
