SOPHIA CLARK DREW

Friends received word from Miss Cora Drew informing them of her mother's death after an illness of about five months. She was released from her suffering October. 23, 1920, in her home in Santa Cruz, California.

Mrs. Sophia Clark Drew was an only sister of Dr. E.W. Clark, deceased. She was a New Englander by birth and tradition, Vermont being her birthplace. She was almost 81 years of age. Mrs. Drew was a resident of Grinnell for many years. It can be truly said of her, "None knew her but to love her." She had many commendable traits. Her sterling worth and high ideals were an inspiration to her friends. She was ever ready to make sacrifices of her time and strength, if by so doing, she could help those in need of a kind act. Her words of cheer were a comfort to those who were depressed mentally, or suffering physically. She was always welcome in the sick room because of her tender care and natural abiltiy as a nurse. Two of her daughters inherited their mother's gift and both are graduate nurses, Miss Cora Drew being superintendent of the hospital at Hollister. They were both with her to care for her during her last illness.

Her daughter, Cora, built a comfortable bungalow in Santa Cruz upon the hillside where she had a good view of the city and Monterey Bay. It was a beautiful sight when the city was all lighted up, or when the moon shone brightly, reflecting the rays on the water.

Mrs. Drew frequently spoke of the kind and pleasant provisions made for her in her declining years. In Santa Cruz she led a quiet and retired life. She was always appreciative of the kindly thoughts and deeds bestowed upon her.

She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized in the Baptist church in Grinnell. She always lived the Christ life and was loyal to the church of her choice. She expressed one regret in leaving Grinnell, that she would have to leave her home church which meant so much to her and where she had spent many happy years in helping to do all she could if there were any burdens to carry.

She leaves a son in Oakland, Mrs. Thracey Melvin of Porterville and daughter Cora already referred to, also two daughters in the East.

A. FRIEND
