FRANK ATWOOD ALMY

Frank Atwood Almy was born November 19, 1901 in Grinnell, the son of the late Frank F. Almy, former professor of physics and head of the physics department for 45 years at Grinnell college, and Eva McReynolds Almy. He died of a sudden heart attack Tuesday, July 10, 1956 at his home in Muskegon, Mich.

He was married July 9, 1929 at Grinnell to Myrtle E. Wilson. A graduate of Grinnell high school, Mr. Almy also attended Grinnell college. After Grinnell college, he attended Harvard university and graduated from the art department. He attended the art institute in Chicago and instructed art at Creighton university in Omaha. He was a director of the Joslyn art gallery in Omaha.

For the past 25 years he was director of the Hackley art gallery in Muskegon. He traveled extensively throughout the U.S. lecturing on art and collecting art objects.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Everett (Winifred) Martin of Fort Dodge. A brother Don preceded him in death.

Graveside rites were held Thursday, July 12 at Hazelwood cemetery with the Smith funeral home in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Leland W. Mann, officiated. Pallbearers were Croft Pilgrim, Carl Child, Ray George, Ross Coutts, Stanley Preston and Harold Tice.
