Mr. Sanders had been in failing health for the past few years and death came to him Thursday morning. He had lived in this community for a number of years and has many friends who will miss him.
Otho Marin Sanders, son of Alexander and Lucy D. Sanders, was born at New Boston, IL on July 4, 1867, and departed this life January 18, 1940, at the age of 72 years, 6 months, and 14 days.
The earlier part of his life was spent in Illinois. At the age of 15 years, he came to Iowa with the W.F. Allen family, with whom he made his home for a number of years. On September 21, 1892, he was united in marriage to Frances E. Johnston. To this union were born eleven children, two dying in infancy. Those left to mourn his passing are four sons: Roy A., Robert O., J. Howard, and Marvin C., and three daughters, Edith M. Hockey, Dorothy B Ladely, and Marjorie M. Elliott. He also leaves eleven grandchildren; a brother Otto, who was at his bedside during his last illness; one sister, Mrs. George Robert of Bemidji, Minn., besides many other relatives and friends. Two sons, Ralph James and Ceamon, preceded him in death.
At the time of his death, he was a member of the Methodist church of Montezuma. He formerly belonged to the Fairmount and Beulah churches, and was active in the gospel team. His self-sacrificing nature and willingness to help other endeared him to all. Being an industrious man, honest and upright in his dealings, made him a favorite among his fellowmen.
