CRAWFORD SPARKS SPENT LONG LIFE IN THIS COMMUNITY

Crawford Sparks, son of James and Elizabeth Sparks, was born in Indiana June 22, 1886. Shortly after the Civil War he came to Iowa in a covered wagon, together with his parents, six brothers and three sisters. The family settled on a farm south of Grinnell and Crawford has lived most of his life in and about this community.

Forty-seven years ago he was united in marriage to Sarah Worton. To this union two sons were born, Pearly of Panora, Iowa, and George of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.

On October 8, 1927, he was united in marriage to Addie Adams. Together they have made their home in Grinnell, where for the past seven years "Croft" (as he was known around town) has worked for the city. Because of failing health he had to give up his work, and after an illness of three and one-half months, passed away at his home at 527 Spring Street February 23, 1943, at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 1 day.

He leaves to sorrow in his passing his wife Addie; two sons, Pearly and George; one brother, Barton Sparks of Grinnell; one sister, Catherine of Washington state; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
