PIONEER WOMAN PASSES AWAY

Mrs. George Sampson, one of the splendid pioneer women of Grinnell, passed away at the hospital Sunday evening shortly after 8:30 o'clock. Funeral services are being held at the home, 717 East St., this afternoon, May 31, at 2:30, conducted by Rev. A.B. Cadwell of the Methodist church.

Mary Jane Stowe was born at Easton, Madison county, N.Y., on Feb. 12, 1855, but had resided in Poweshiek county since early childhood. She was married to Mr. Geo. Sampson in Grinnell on Nov. 15, 1876, and they spent their entire married life in Grinnell, as a matter of fact, in the same block of this city. Six years ago they celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sampson, a daughter and a son. The daughter, Mrs. S.M. Pegram of Muskegee, Okla., arrived in Grinnell Saturday evening. The son, Lewis J. Sampson, resides in Grinnell.
