LUCY DOONAN FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Lundy Lemon, but known throughout Poweshiek county as Lucy Doonan, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Steffy Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. G.R. Dieken. Mrs. Hazel Dale played the funeral selections and accompanied Mrs. Rose Hornbeck and Mrs. Marion Axtell, who sang "In The Garden" and "Ivory Palaces."

Burial was in Goldenrod cemetery at Deep River. Casket bearers were Robert McWilliams, C.V. Hopwood, P.J. Icenbice, Claudis Axtell, Dr. C.D. Hornbeck and Wendell McLain.

Lucy, daughter of Mary and John Doonan, was born on a farm near Brooklyn Feb. 17, 1882, and passed away in Mt. Pleasant, Dec. 2.

She lived with her parents near Deep River, where she attended rural school, and later, became a dressmaker.

She was married to Lundy Lemon. One son, Adrian, died in infancy. A nephew, Duane Doonan, lived with her while he attended school.

She lived in Montezuma during the early 1930's, and moved to Rock Island, Ill., in 1934, where she did nursing. She continued nursing until she retired in 1955. She was a member of the Practical Nurses association of the Quad Cities, and was its president during 1948.

Since last February she was hospitalized with a broken hip and never regained her health.

She is survived by two brothers, John, of Brooklyn, and Samuel, of Marshalltown, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
