GEORGE CRAVER

George Craver, one of the well-known citizens of Sugar Creek township, and where he had made his home for more than fifteen years, died suddenly at the Old Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown, Saturday, December 17. Mr. Craver, who was 91 years old, entered the home in Marshalltown about two years ago. He was a native of Glouchester county, New Jersey and was born July 15, 1830. He died December 17, 1921, aged 91 years 5 months and 2 days. When 21 years of age he located at Bloomfield, Indiana, where he was later united in *marriage to Frances Kingry. To this union were born four children, of which only two survive him: Mrs. S.L. Applegte of Long Branch, California, A.J. Craver of Grinnell. When the Civil war broke out, Mr. Craver as among the first to volunteer. He joined the 68th Indiana Infantry, Co. G. He fought in 16 hard battles without receiving any very great injuries. In his business dealings he was at all times honorable and held the esteem, respect and confidence of those who knew him best. He practiced no show of deceit, but in his daily life endeavored to apply the Golden Rule in all things. He leaves to mourn their loss, besides his two children, six grandchildren: Hasley L. of Des Moines; Mrs. Marie Booton of Grinnell; Lester and John Applegate of Wichita, Kansas; and Will Applegate of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Amos Reaves of Long Beach. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. E.M. Gregson in the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon. Interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Thus the life's work of another pioneer is now completed and he has passed to rest in peace.--Montezuma Republican.
