OTTO FISTLER

Otto Fistler, 84, of Grinnell died Wednesday, Sept. 11, at his home.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Organist was Marlene Toney, pianist was Lorna Lang, and vocalists were Rich and Karolyn Milligan.

Pallbearers were Glen Bell, Harold Cocking, John Green, Ono Guy, Bob Johnson and Lyle Wiley. Honorary bearers were Burdette Abel, Addison Jones, Dr. H.R. Light and Jim Miller. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Fred W. and Bertha Kotenbeutel Fistler, he was born June 12, 1912, in Ackley. He received his education in the Ackley School District.

On Oct. 25, 1933, he married Elsie Poley in Mason City. The couple lived in Ackley until moving to Hampton in 1940. They moved to Grinnell in 1948.

Mr. Fistler was a section foreman and track inspector with the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad and later with the Chicago & North Western Railroad. He retired in 1968. He was a charter member of the Grinnell Christian Church where he served as deacon and usher. He was also a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Maintenance Employees.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Joan Wittrup of Grinnell; one son, Richard of Downers Grove, Ill.; two brothers, William of Ackley and Kenneth of Manly; two sisters, Minnie Randall of Osage and Viola Murphy of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ferdinand, August and Herman; and two sisters, Helen Randall and Mary Allison.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Grinnell Christian Church or Hospice of Grinnell.
