WILLIAM SLAGLE

William Slagle was born at Brooklyn, Iowa, March 7, 1870. He grew to manhood in this vicinity and received his education in the Brooklyn schools. He was a fireman on the Rock Island railroad for three years. He then went to work at the government arsenal at Rock Island, where he labored for about twenty years. He then secured a farm near Andulusia, Illinois, where he engaged in truck farming. In this he was occupied until his death. He died at the Rock Island hospital Wednesday, August 26.

He was affiliated with the I.O.O.F. lodge, being a charter member of Ucal Lodge No. 608 of Rock Island.

He is survived by three brothers, Douglas E., of Chariton, Iowa, Verne of Brooklyn, and L.G. of Council Bluffs, and four sisters, Mrs. E.C. Kilmer of Brooksville, Mississippi, Mrs. S.B. Shirk of Guthrie, Minn., Mrs. J.S. Carter of Montezuma, and Mrs. Wm. McIlrath of Eldon, Mo.

The funeral services were held in the Brooklyn I.O.O.F. hall on Sunday afternoon, August 30, at two o'clock. Rev. E.W.F. Holler, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, had charge. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery under direction of Lodge No. 114.

The pallbearers were Wm. Holley, Ira Thompson, Charles Landtiser, Ernest Ormiston, Fred Gilmore, and John Bagenstos.
