D.W. TYLER

D.W. Tyler, 64, of Columbia, Mo., formerly of Grinnell, died of a heart ailment May 27 at his home.

Memorial services were conducted June 1 at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, with the Rev. Paul Moessner officiating.

He was born June 23, 1928, in Lakeview, Texas, the son of George and Mabel Macalester Tyler. He was a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin, where he received his B.A., M.A. and PhD. degrees in experimental psychology. He did postgraduate research as an experimental and physiological psychologist at the Balcones Primate Research Center in Austin for two years.

Dr. Tyler taught psychology at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Louisana State University in Baton Rouge, Arizona State University in Tempe and Grinnell College, where he was a professor in the psychology department from 1962 until his retirement in 1978.

He had been a board member for the Voluntary Action Center in Columbia, Mo., since 1979 and for Mid-Missouri Legal Services since 1986. For the past three years he also served as ombudsman on the Governor's Commitee on Nuring Homes through the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging. He was a veteran of World War II and a U.S. Air Force Reserve officer.

Surviving are is mother of Bryan, Texas; one son, Keith of Arlington, Texas; one daughter, Ellen Tyler of Lubbock, Texas; a sister, Geraldine Hott of Bryan, Texas, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant sister, Geneva.
