DOROTHY METZ
Dorothy Metz, 78, of Pomona, Mo., formerly of Holiday Lake, died Aug. 13.
Funeral services were conducted Aug. 17 at the Harrison Funeral Home in Tama, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery there.
A memorial fund has been established.
The daughter of Harry W. and Grace Evelyn Gilkerson Wolcott, she was born Dec. 28, 1910, at Armour, S.D. Following the death of her mother in 1914, she was raised by her paternal grandparents, the Rev. William and Minnie Wolcott. They lived in Spirit Lake.
She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1928, then attended the University of Iowa where she majored in chemistry. In 1932, she worked as a hospital technician and in the office of her aunt, Dr. Ruth Wolcott of Spirit Lake.
She was married to Clifford E. Metz Oct. 11, 1933, in Webster City. They farmed south of Tama until the spring of 1944 when they purchased a farm in Madison Township, living there until retiring in 1979 when they moved to Pomona.
Mrs. Metz was active in Farm Bureau, Poweshiek County Chorus, church activities, D.A.R., Madison Homemakers, Grange and other organizations. She was a member of the Pomona Christian Church and Ladies Aid.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Edward of Galesburg, Ill.; a daughter, Grace Elliott of Grinnell; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one half-brother, Harry Wolcott Jr. of San Marcos, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother, Orrissa Wolcott.
