Obituary dated Sept. 2, 1911

CHARLES GILLESPIE

Charles Gillespie, the son of George and Katherine Gillespie, was born September 21, 1883, at Coon Rapids, Iowa, and died September 13, 1911, at Nordrach Ranch, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

For two years his health had been gradually failing. One year ago he went to Oregon in the hope of becoming stronger and for some time really seemed better, but a few months ago he reached the place where he could no longer work and returned home. After that, he failed very rapidly and often longed for a breath of western air. In the hope of at least prolonging his life he was taken to Nordrach Ranch, Colorado, a few days before his death. Everything possible was done for him but it seemed his work here was done.

A father, mother, four sisters and two brothers besides many other relatives and friends are left to mourn his loss.

His home while around Grinnell, has always been with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Gillespie, who live west of town, and to them he seemed as one of the family.

The funeral services were held at the Friends church of which he was a member and he was laid to rest in the the cemetery at Mt. Pleasant, eight miles southwest of town. His two sisters, Mrs. Mary and Mrs. Lena Griffin, from Dakota, and his father, mother, brother, sister, and other relatives from Coon Rapids were here for the funeral.
