RUBY BELLE PUGH GILLESPIE
Ruby Belle Pugh Gillespie, daughter of William Grant and Hanna Lee Pugh, as born January 11, 1886, at Grinnell, Iowa, where she spent most of her life. She spent her youth in the Westfield community and in Grinnell where she attended the public schools.
On January 1, 1905, she was united in marriage to Harry Gillespie at the Mount Pleasant Rural Church, west of Grinnell. To this union were born five children, Thelma, Mrs. Marion Krumm of Gibson, Iowa; Esther, Mrs Basil Arment, Grinnell; Ada, Mrs. Floyd Tychsen of Marshalltown, Ithel Gillespie of Newburg; and Doris, Mrs. Floyd Phipps of Port Angeles, Washington.
For 25 years, Mrs. Gillespie and her companion farmed and maintained their home in the Grinnell, Newburg, and Searsboro areas. She loved her home and family, always willing to help others along the way of life. They moved to Grinnell in 1930 where they have since made their home.
Nearly 8 years ago she was stricken with an illness from which she never fully recovered. During these years she has been a patient in the home. Her husband has been her constant companion, neither ever complaining, both making life and home a pleasant place for all.
She is survived by her companion, Harry Gillespie of the home, her five children, 22 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two brothers, Roy Pugh of Montezuma, and Paul Pugh of San Fernando, California, several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
She passed away following a serious two-week illness, at her home in Grinnell, Tuesday, Sept. 27, nearly 70 years of age.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct 1st at the James Funeral Home with Rev. C.E. Kingsley, minister of the First Baptist church officiating.
Pallbearers were eight grandsons: Howard Gillespie, Lawrence Krumm, Wesley Krumm, Ted Tychsen, Gerald Arment, Duane Arment, Harvey Krumm, and Gene Tychsen.
Interment was at Chester cemetery.
