MRS. BASIL ARMENT DIES THIS MORNING; SATURDAY SERVICES
Esther Arment of 1231 Spring St. died early Thursday morning at her home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.
The daughter of Harry and Ruby Pugh Gillespie, she was born on Feb. 13, 1908, in the Chester Center community just north of Grinnell, and was a graduate of Grinnell high school.
She was united in marriage with Basil Arment on Sept. 16, 1926, at Tama. Following their marriage they lived in Montour, Iowa, for a number of years, for two years in Washington state, and then returned to this community where they farmed for two years near Kellogg. For the past 16 years they operated their plumbing and heating business here.
Mrs. Arment is survived by her husband, Basil; two sons, Gerald and Duane, both of Grinnell; her daughter, Mrs. Keith (Charlotte) Bailey of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Thelma Krumm of Gibson, Ada Tychsen of Marshalltown; Doris Phipps of Port Atkins, Wash.; her brother, Ithel Gillespie of Newburg; and her father, Harry Gillespie of Port Angeles, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lucie Belle Lawson, and her mother.
