GERNA REIDA

Mrs. Gerna Reida, 91, of Brooklyn, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services for Gerna Reida were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Rev. Ronald Van Heukelom, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated.

The organist was Jan Read. Special selection was "On Eagle's Wings." Honorary casket-bearers were Doug Michalek, Jim Wang and Don Kriegel. Casket-bearers were Dennis Reida, Michael Roudabush, Greg Roudabush, Randy Lidka, Scott Roudabush and Brian Roudabush. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Gerna Ruth Haswell Reida, daughter of George Haswell and Mamie Flaig Haswell, was born Aug. 1, 1909, at Chariton, Ia. She received her education in Brooklyn except for three years when the family lived in Montana. She graduated from high school in the class of 1929.

On Oct. 30, 1929, Gerna was married to Amos Edward Reida in the Prebyterian Manse in Grinnell. They were the parents of four children, Wesley, Mary Jane, Bruce and Colleen.

Gerna helped with the school hot lunch program from 1972 to 1988. She, Amos and Bruce did custodial work at the Poweshiek County Savings Bank.

Mrs. Reida was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who died Sept. 15, 1992.

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Mary Jane and Dean Roudabush of Columbus, Ohio and Colleen and Lavern Lidtka of Malcom; two sons, Wesley Reida and his wife, Doris of Brooklyn and Bruce Reida of Brooklyn; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
