The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Jan. 1899

--Anderson W. Fox was born in Clark county, Ohio, Nov. 24, 1820. He lived in his native state more than half his life. He emigrated to Iowa and settled in Davenport in 1864. In 1878 he came to Grinnell which has been the family home ever since. On Jan. 10th, 1854, he was married to his now bereft companion, Mrs. Elizabeth Bradshaw Fox. To them were born six children, five of whom with the mother, survive to mourn the loss of husband and father: Mrs. J.S. Quinn, of Killduff, Iowa; Mr. Geo. B. Fox, of Argentine,Kan.; Mrs. F.A. Preston, of Valley Junction, Iowa; Mrs. B.H. Reynolds and Mrs. S.C. Forsythe, of Grinnell, Iowa. Mr. Fox followed rail-roading all of his active life. The last (????) he did was to assist in the construction of the road from New Sharon to Newton. His health failed in 1872 and for 16 years he has been unable to do any work. Most of this time he was a great sufferer. His bodily ailments more or less affected his mind, and a few months ago his friends reluctantly sent him to the asylum at Mt. Pleasant where he suddenly died Jan. 11, 1899, aged 78 years, 1 month and 18 days. The funeral occurred Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S.C. Forsythe, conducted by Rev. J.E. Corley.
