MRS. ANNE AKERS SUCCUMBS TO LONG ILLNESS WEDNESDAY

Mrs. Warren N. (Anne) Akers, 86, 833 East Street, died about noon Wednesday following in illness of the past several years.

Prayer services were held that afternoon from Smith Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held later in the Abbey Mausoleum in Washington, D.C., and her ashes will be placed there beside those of her husband.

She was the daughter of Howel and Elizabeth Hays Jones and was born Sept. 25th, 1873, in Topeka, Kan. She lived for many years in Washington, D.C., where her husband was an official of the Corporation Trust Co. As a young girl, she studied at the Art Institute in Chicago and later gained recognition as a painter and poet.

Mrs. Akers was a member of the Maryland Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National League of American Pen Women, the Arts Club of Washington, and the Original Hospital Group (Gray Ladies) of the American Red Cross.

She moved to Grinnell from Floirda about four years ago and made her home with her sister, Mrs. T.D. Alden. She also is survived by another sister, Mrs. Theodore Snattinger of Topeka; a brother, Howel Jones of Cedar Point, Kan.; and a nephew, Henry Alden of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Mrs. Akers was a member of the Episcopal church.
