MRS. IDA HARTZELL DIES THIS MORNING, RITES WEDNESDAY

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, from the Smith Funeral Home for Mrs. Ida Hartzell, 87, of Rte. 2, Grinnell, widow of Marion C. Hartzell. Mrs. Hartzell died this morning (Monday) at her home. She had been in failing health the past year.

Officiating will be the Rev. Ernest J. Starr of the Mayflower Home. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

She was the daughter of Joseph Milton and Martha Hillyer Perry and was born on Aug. 8, 1878, on a farm near Wilton Junction. When she was a small child her family moved to the What Cheer community and she was educated in the schools near her home.

On June 2, 1897, she was united in marriage with Marion C. Hartzell at the Hartzell home near Grinnell by the Rev. E.M. Vittum. To this union were born five children, four of whom survive her: Estella Hartzell, Josephine Hartzell and Ray Hartzell, all of Grinnell, and Mrs. Ermal (Alice) Sleeth of Milwaukee, Wis.

When she was a young girl she became a member of the Christian church.

Since her marriage she had made her home for 69 years on the family farm just west of Grinnell.

Surviving are her four children, 13 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marion, on Feb. 7, 1961; and infant son, Harrison, and four sisters.
