FLOYD K. LACINA, 99

Floyd K. Lacina, 99, of Grinnell, died Dec.31, 2010, at his home.

A funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell with the Rev. Nick Adam and the Rev. Mr. Bill Olson officiating. Organist was Marilyn Kriegel. Pallbearers were Jake, Jim and Steve Harris, Joe and Merideth Lacina, Eric Pederson, and Sean Plesinger. Honorary bearers were Allen Latcham, Don Pederson, Richard Shaw, and Larry and Scott Wilson. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Manor or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell.

Floyd was born Feb. 13, 1911, on the family farm in Tama County, the son of Joseph William and Julia Krepela Lacina. He was raised on the farm and was a 1929 graduate of Gilman High School and valedictorian.

On June 15, 1936, he was united in marriage to Helen Margaret Balloun, in Chelsea. The couple farmed north of Grinnell for many years and moved to Grinnell in 1986. They later moved to Seeland Park in 1993.

Floyd was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a Charter Member of Chester Royal Grange. He was a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, fishing, good humor, and cooking treats for and visiting with his many friends.

Survivors include three children, Ruth (Greg) Plesinger of Phoenix, Ariz., Sam (Patty) Lacina of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Tom (Alesia) Lacina of Grinnell; six grandchildren, Sean Plesinger, Gretchen Sisti, Loralei Thornburg, and Bethany, Merideth and Joseph Lacina; and four great-grandchildren, Wolf and Skylar Sisti and Julianna and Nathan Thornburg.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; one son, Kenneth Lacina; one grandson, Jonathan Lacina; and his sister, Madelyn Harris; and brother, Wallace Winfield, who died in infancy.
