OBITUARY.

Anna Newcomer Clay was born Nov. 20, 1833, at Mount Joy, Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. When about 2 years old her parents moved to Cumberland county, where her childhood days were spent. In 1855 she married John Clay and moved to Perry county, from there they moved to Troy Grove, Illinois. In 1867 they moved 8 miles northwest of Grinnell.

To this union nine children were born, four of whom preceded her to the spirit world.

In January, 1882 she moved to Grinnell to educate her children. In 1900 she moved to Grundy county, where she resided with her son, going with him to Foxhome, Minnesota, about 5 years ago where she resided at the time of her death.

Four sons, John Tyler, Ezra Dow, Zachary Taylor, Schuyler Colfax, and one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Marsh, and 5 grandchildren, four brothers and one sister, survive her.

She was 80 years and 9 days old at the time of her death, she being the eldest of the family and the first one to pass to the Great Beyond.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church, Newburg, on Wednesday, conducted by Rev. H.L. Wissler and the body laid to rest in the Chester cemetery.
