MERVIN H. SISCO

Mervin H. Sisco, for many years a resident of Grinnell and vicinity, but more recently of Marshalltown, where he was employed by the M. & St. L. Railroad, died at St. Thomas hospital in that city early in the week of heart and kidney disease from which he had suffered since last December. He had been bedfast for six weeks and for the past month had been cared for in the hospital.

Mr. Sisco, was born in Henry county, Illinois, in April of 1861. At the age of thirteen he came to Iowa with his parents. He was twice married, his first wife being Libbie Atwood. Their son, Melvin, of this city, survives him. November 28, 1916, he married Jane Wallace of Marshalltown.

Besides his wife and son, Mr. Sisco is survived by a brother, Clarence Sisco of Cedar Rapids, and four sisters, Mrs. E.R. Adams of Newburg, Mrs. Newton Hartzell of Grinnell, Mrs. Lauretta Mullins of Fonda and Mrs. Belle Fay, of Northfield, Minn.

The funeral was held Tuesday and the body was brought to Newburg Wednesday and was interred in the Chester Center cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Newt Hartzell and Melvin Sisco and family of Grinnell and R.E. Adams and family, John Newcomer and three sons, Chester, Edward and Charles and Richard Burroughs of Newburg were among those in attendance.

Mr. Sisco was well known in Chester where he farmed for a number of years. He is also mourned by a large circle of friends in Grinnell.
