OBITUARY.
MRS. SARAH RUTH JAMES
Mrs. Sarah Ruth (Rickard) James was born at Lyons, Iowa, Feb. 20, 1850. At the age of twelve years she removed with her parents to Tiskilwa, Ill., and eight years later to Chester, Ia., where she was married to Mr. Horace James in September, 1871, who died nine years ago. Three of their four children, Edward A., Herman A. and Mary L., survive her, one having died in infancy in 1890. Three of her sisters are still living, viz: Mrs. Susan Mills, Mrs. S.D.Ward and Mrs. Geo. *Morse, as is also her mother, Mrs. Jane Rickard, all of this vicinity.
She joined the Congregational church at Chester in 1873 and transferred her membership to the Congregational church here on coming to Grinnell to reside in 1888.
Her life has been quiet and undemonstrative, a benediction to her home, a blessing to all who knew her. Her ambition led her to render sincerest christian service in all her relations. She never sought to be conspicuous, yet, was always anxious to be useful, and the love of all was her precious reward.
Her death occurred Aug. 9. The funeral service was on the 11th at her late residence. Prof. Parker officiated and music was furnished there and at the grave by Misses Bartlett and Wheelock, Dr. Parish and Mr. A.C. Harriman. A profusion of flowers at the house and a beautiful bank of them surmounted by the sacred word, "Mother," at the grave were tender memorials of affection.
CARD OF THANKS.
We wish to express our heartfeld thanks for the kindness of friends and neighbors during the sickness and death of our beloved mother, and for the beautiful floral offerings.
EDWARD A. JAMES.
