MARY JOHNSON RITES FRIDAY
Mary E. Johnson, 70, a former resident of Grinnell died Tuesday, June 2, in Yucaipa, Calif., following an extended illness.
The daughter of Maynard and Alice Koester Sears, she was born on March 11, 1900, in Chester Township and attended the rural schools of the community. She was also a graduate of Grinnell High School and the American Institute of Business at Des Moines.
On Nov. 13, 1948, she was married to J.A. "Tony" Johnson at Santa Monica, Calif., and after her marriage lived in California.
She is survived by her husband; two step-daughters; a sister, Mrs. Ben Thompson of Tama; and a brother, Homer Sears of Traer. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lloyd.
Graveside services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the family lot in Chester Cemetery. The Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Maynard Sears, Russell Sears, Roger Sears, Kenneth Sears, Laverne Thompson and Owen Flanagan.
