JESSE SHINE PASSES AWAY IN MALCOM
Jesse Shine, son of Adam and Elizabeth Uhl Shine, was born near Millersburg, Ohio, July 15, 1856, and departed this life April 1, 1936, aged 79 years, 8 months and 17 days. He went to the University Hospital at Iowa City, Iowa, early last winter to take treatments. It was at the hospital that he passed away on April 1st.
He was the eldest of a family of twelve children, seven of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are two brothers, Lafe of Brooklyn, and A.B. Shine of Marshalltown; two sisters, Mrs. John Hinegardner, and Mrs. Rose Robertson, both of Malcom, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
In 1857 he moved with his parents to Brooklyn, later to a farm near Malcom, and in 1883 moved to Malcom. Since 1904 he has made his home alone.
Throughout the years he has been known by those who knew him as a true friend and kindly man. He loved gardening and nature but loved to make friends better.
As a young man he attended the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed the church services very much and was loyal in attendance. The songs selected for his funeral were among his favorites. His character and attitude toward life were in accord with the belief of God he held. He believed in our Heavenly Father and to Him we commend the spirit of our brother.
Funeral services were held from the Malcom Methodist Church Saturday, April 4, 1936, at two o'clock with Rev. Wilson Hyde in charge. Burial was made in the Ivy Hill Cemetery.
