--Eli Stagg died at his home of Sixth avenue, last Tuesday, aged nearly 68 years. He was born at Charlestown Corners, New York, June 9, 1834. He lived there as a farmer and teacher until 1868 when he removed to Cedar Co., Ia., and in 1896 to Grinnell. He was married in February 1879 to Miss Lida Miller, who with an only daughter, Lila, remains with us. Mr. Stagg was a man of the strictest integrity, of a kind and generous disposition, respected by all, and loved by those that knew him intimately. In early life he united with the Christian church of his native town and was prominent as a Sunday school superintendent and teacher. On removing to Grinnell he became a faithful and beloved member of the Cong'l church. The funeral services were conducted from the house Sunday afternoon by the Rev. E.M. Vittum, and his remains laid at rest in Hazelwood cemetery.
