MRS. ELIZABETH REITER

Elizabeth Walls was born at Xenia, Green Co., Ohio, May 8, 1829, and passed away at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. F.W. Black, May 12, 1920, age 91 years and four days.

In early life she was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church of which she remained a member until her death.

At the age of eighteen she was united in marriage to Henry Reiter, of Piqua, Ohio. To this union were born eleven children, eight of whom together with the husband have preceded her to the better land. She is survived by two sons, W.B. Reiter, Canon City, Colorado, M.P. Reiter, of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. A.J. Neely; also six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In 1870 the family came west and with the exception of six years spent in Kansas have lived in Iowa ever since. Since the death of her husband thirty-one years ago she has made her home in Grinnell with her children.

Some twenty years ago she broke her hip and since that time has been an invalid. When her daughter went west last September for her health she came to make her home with her granddaughter Elsie, where she remained until the end came. Her son, daughter and granddaughter were with her when she passed away.

Funeral services were held at the home May 14th conducted by Rev. W. W. Woodburn and she was laid by her husband in Hazelwood Cemetery. Bearers were Elmer Bortell, Joe Teaser, Walter Neely, Evelyn Black, Hulbert Jacobs and G.B. McGuin, most of whom were old friends of hers.

Mrs. Reiter was an industrious and home loving woman. Of late she was unable to go about among her friends, but she always enjoyed having them visit her and their visits cheered many lonesome hours for her.
